Fall Housing

Last week, all of us on-campus students went through a process to secure our housing arrangements for the fall. It was a pretty stressful decision for us since we needed to figure out what type of room we wanted and who would be our roommate. After thinking about potential roommates for a while, God planted the idea for the perfect roomie in my mind: my current RA Sarah Ritchie. We talked about the possibility and it turns out, I came to her mind as a person she would want to live with as well. But she was waiting to hear back from other girls that she has roomed with in the past/is close friends with. I didn't really have a back up person in mind, and if Sarah said no, that would mean I would get a random roommate next year...and I'd rather not do that. The more we talked and prayed, the more confusing it got because neither of us was getting a clear sign from God about this. I knew I wasn't getting a no, but still didn't know if God had someone else in mind. But God taught me that it's okay not to have a backup plan (trust exercise!) because Sarah's other alternatives were clear "no's" for different reasons. Two days before the selection process, she rushed over to my room and said, "Jamie, will you be my roommate?!" We were sooooo excited and I started freaking out I was so happy! This duo feels so God-planned and I could not ask for a better roommate for my senior year. We are going to have so much fun together!

Our first pre-roommate adventure started on the morning of housing selection. The way it works is that they have different times for the different years to sign up for a room. The freshmen and sophomores could sign up at 9 AM, juniors at noon, and seniors at 2 PM. It's first come first serve, and Sarah and I were determined to be the first seniors in line so get the first of the last pick. This meant that we got up at 6 AM, drove to Starbucks, and then sat in the hallway waiting to sign up...for 8 hours! We made it fun and talked about our future room, pet peeves, guest rules, and decor we like. I knit half of a hat while we waited. It was crazy to see so many people packed into the halls around 8 AM. Some people actually spent all night waiting so they would get first pick! But in the end, we got the room we wanted (another bigger one like I'm currently in) and are going to be neighbors with some of our best friends on this hall! God is so good :)
