Hurricane Irene

Hello, my loyal readers! Let the blogging from Virginia recommence. I've been back for over two weeks now and will fill you in on those events later on. But I'm sure most of you are wondering about the hurricane excitement. Man, we barely finished the first week of classes and then Irene decides to take a vacation on the east coast!

At this point, Regent is closed until further notice (as are most of the local schools) and we were urged to evacuate. Let me put you at ease and assure you that I am safely away and waiting out the worst of the storm in Lynchburg (about a 3 hour drive west). Yesterday, my roommate Sarah and I and two other girls on our hall embarked on a road trip with our most prized possessions in hand. It's an interesting experience deciding what to pack when you aren't sure if your home will be there when you return. The eye of the hurricane is supposed to hit Virginia Beach this afternoon (2 ish) and pass by Sunday morning. Praise God that it downsized to a category 2! I'm just concerned for my friends that stayed behind in the area. Please pray for safety, peace, and miracles.

Despite the danger, we've been enjoying this spontaneous adventure. Yesterday, we explored Liberty University which is about 5 minutes away from our hotel. It's part of the reason we're here because Sarah's boyfriend and Catherine's sister attend there. So we had dinner with a bunch of their friends and wandered around last night. It is a massive campus! About 12,000 students. They even have a year-round snow mountain where you can ski all year long! The sheer size of campus just made me all the more in love with quaint and intimate Regent.

Through all of this, I'm consistently reminded of God's faithfulness and protection. Regent campus is covered in prayer as are the students and I trust he will protect. I was thinking of the Fee song that says, "The arms that hold the universe are holding you tonight, you can rest inside, it's gonna be alright. And the voice that calmed the raging sea is calling you his child, so be still and know he's in control, he will never let you go."

Even 3 hours away, the sky isn't looking too healthy

Hello Summer!

Well, my junior year is officially complete! I survived! God is good. It's my last night in VA before I fly home until August. It's bittersweet. It's been a great day though. Erica and I stayed up until 3 AM last night packing, singing, and being goofy/sleep deprived. Today, we finished cleaning our room and her family came up to move her home. It was great to see them one more time before I left. Her Mom even helped me move a few boxes to a storage unit I'm splitting with some friends. It was sad to say goodbye to my roomie, but she's coming to visit me in June. Woohoo!

Tonight, went to Applebee's with my friends Sammi and Juana. We had a lovely dinner and margaritas. It was funny because originally we were going to Chic-Fil-A but we forgot it's closed on Sundays :) Ha ha! Now we are back in Juana's room watching Napoleon Dynamite with Christen, Rachel, and Catherine too. I'm having a sleepover in Sarah's room tonight since my room is clean and empty and boring. Couldn't think of a better way to spend my last evening here than surrounded by the amazing women God has blessed me with at Regent. I'm so excited to go home tomorrow! Guess I'll pause this blog until August when I start my senior year :)

New

Here are some new experiences I've had in the last week...
• Watching The Passion of the Christ for the first time (on Good Friday, do it if you haven't)
• Seeing God's healing power in action
• Experiencing a tornado warning
• Have s'mores in a jar (best dessert ever invented!)
• Seriously contemplating cutting my hair short over summer
• Not being at my church on Easter Sunday...sniff

Only 8 more days until I fly home! I'm so excited to see my family, friends, and STEVE!

2 More Weeks

It's hard to believe that I'll be home in 13 days! It seems like this year has gone by in a flash. Lots of lessons learned, friends made, film knowledge gained, and faith stretched. Things are a bit tense around here with finals on the very near horizon. I was really feeling pressure yesterday with my overwhelming pile of homework and films to work on. But God is so faithful and blessed me with the grace and peace I needed this morning. In less than 12 hours, I got an email that said a film shoot got pushed back to next week, one of my assignments was waived, and a test that I thought was this week isn't until next week. God is so faithful!!! I literally thought I was going to die this week, but God just reminded me that he's got everything under control. I'm growing my trust a lot this semester.

College Life

I love university life! Dull moments are rarely an option. Here are some highlights (some are a bit out of the ordinary)...

• Baking muffins at 2 AM

• Attended my dear friend Corrie’s bridal shower

• Dinners consisting of whatever I have (one night that was carrots, mac and cheese, popcorn, and french fries, and hot chocolate!)

• Staying up past midnight is "required" in the commons

• Doing laundry at ungodly hours

• Being able to go across the hall and hang out with amazing girls

• Doing homework outside while lying in the grass on a sunny day

• Spontaneous prayer with people

• Going out to IHOP at 1 AM

Gabrielle stopped by after her makeup class :)

The Ratio

It's senior project season, so lots of films are in final stages of production. Here's a trailer for a film I had the opportunity to be an extra in. It's called The Ratio (I'm the barista on the right). Check it out!
